ABOUT

Starkey

Matthew, (his friends call him “Starkey”, you can too!), is a professional Race Announcer, Voice Over Artist, and M.C. well-known for delivering a fun and highly energetic experience to your event!

A San Diego native with a passion for giving back to his community, Starkey was born and raised in Poway (The City in The Country) in a house that his parents called home for 34 years. The youngest of two children, he enjoys keeping up with his nephews who now live in Dallas, TX with his sister and brother-in-law.

Race announcing, Voice Overs, and M.C. gigs are the perfect compliment to his passions. You can find him running locally in the San Diego area (mostly along the 56 bike path) most early mornings.

His deepest passion is family. In 2014 he married his best friend and fellow runner, Stephanie. The two met through a local chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. In grand fashion, he proposed at the finish line of the Mayor’s Marathon in Anchorage, AK. They just welcomed their first child, baby Rowan to the team in July of 2022. With their two dogs, Pepper and Sirius, guarantee that there is never a dull moment in the Starkey home!

What's better than one Starkey? TWO Starkeys! Starkey's wife Stephanie is thrown into the mix at some of the races to bring extra energy to your event.

Stephanie moved to California in 2011 and instantly found her place in the local active community.  After training for her first Tough Mudder, she decided to train for her first marathon and that is where she met Matthew and it was love at first mile! She remains active in the San Diego running community and enjoys giving her time and fundraising efforts to various charities in San Diego. Currently, Stephanie is chasing the elusive Boston Qualifying Marathon time and is hoping to run the Boston Marathon sometime in the near future!

Together, Team Starkey puts their passion, energy, and excitement into everything they do!
